Dynamix Technology comment:
This edition of Ted Dangelmayer's comprehensive guide to developing, implementing and managing an ESD program has been completely revised and updated to meet the growing demands of ESD control programs.

It provides information on the 12 factors in ESD program management, the fundamentals of electrostatics and the use of auditing in ESD program management as well as information on SPC compliance with ISO-9000 and work area, supplier and sub-contractor audits. Based on end user experience, this is a guide for electronics manufacturing and quality control professionals.

Dynamix Technology comment:
Practical accelerated testing, or environmental stress screening, is now seen as an alternative to product reliability engineering. By stimulating component weaknesses and failures in an accelerated test chamber, failures only detected in real time are exposed during the design phase. Written by a world-renowned expert and trainer in environmental stress stimulation, this book presents the author's HALT (highly accelerated life testing) and HASS (highly accelerated stress screening) techniques, used to create optimal designs from the outset.

Dynamix Technology comment:
"Electronic failure analysis is now common across a broad range of companies and electronics technologies yet it is difficult to find any documentation of these efforts. The Electronic Failure Analysis Handbook is an attempt to address this deficiency. I called upon the leading experts in their fields to contribute chapters to the handbook and case studies & examples are presented and featured in all three parts of the handbook. These experts did a wonderful job of presenting the material in a useful format. I believe that this handbook will be a valuable addition to the library of anyone who works in or around electronics." - The Author

Dynamix Technology comment:
The book is divided up into 17 chapters with 400 pages well illustrated with diagrams and photographs. The chapters tend to cover three main topics - materials, components and assembly and finally what is referred to as the “Designers Perspective”, material which can be used to understand and predict product life expectancy.

"The book is a very useful and informative read and well worth the investment." - Bob Willis, Electronic Presentation Services

Dynamix Technology comment:
This book gives practical guidance on using statistical process control [SPC] techniques on the surface mount technology [SMT] production line to aid in achieving specified quality levels. In this book, Dr. Messina proposes the concept of "data sleuthing" to solve for the "excessive variation" on the manufacturing line.

Dr. William S. Messina has over 25 years of practical experience in the application of statistical methods in industry. Bill Messina is a lecturer and has written two books and published 25 technical articles. He is a co-winner of the 1994 Brumbaugh Award from the American Society For Quality.

"The book is well written with limited jargon and is accessible by those that barely remember the words "Central Limit Theorem", much less recall what it means. Rather than a dry textbook on statistics, examples within chapters and in the case studies are from the SMT assembly line and are wonderful aids for reinforcing the lessons of the text and for visualizing practical, on-line uses for statistical analysis. A greater attention to editorial detail would improve the book. Also, a chapter on applying SPC methods to both production in small lot sizes and production ramp-up of a new product would be nice." - Dave Fish

Dynamix Technology comment:
SPC Methods for Quality Improvement provides a complete written blueprint for integrating SPC methods into the manufacturing process. It explains methods for improving existing SPC systems and describes cutting-edge techniques that enable managers to develop full-fledged SPC systems in industries that traditionally were considered off-limits to this type of statistical analysis.

The only guide to SPC geared exclusively to the practical concerns of manufacturing professionals, it translates statistical / mathematical concepts into real world applications with the help of dozens of case studies and examples drawn from a variety of industries.

SPC methods for Quality Improvement is also a superb introductory text for students and newcomers to SPC. The author patiently introduces readers to the essential SPC concepts and procedures and provides methodical, step-by-step instruction in the proper use of SPC tools and techniques.

Using examples from drawn from a broad array of industries - from semiconductors to food processing, biomedical engineering to education - he deafly illustrates how SPC methods can streamline the manufacturing process and improve product quality.
